Oh yes.

At the SDCC Disney panel, a little announcement was made about a new Haunted Mansion movie being written and produced (but not directed, yet) by....Guillermo del Toro.

I mean, holy cow. This is awesome. After that 2003 movie, they can't go anywhere but up with this. I can only imagine the kooky shenanigans Guillermo will think up for not-Eddie Murphy to get into.

The movie's supposed to have the Hatbox Ghost, too, which means I can only assume Ron Perlman will be playing him.

I'm sorry, I can't even convey how excited I am for this. Way to go, Disney.

And now for some links:

When I heard Del Toro was behind it, I was like, "OMGWTFBBQ FARK YEAH! THE COSTUMES WILL BE AWESOME!!11!elevendy!"
I'm sure the story will be better than the 2003 movie, (how can it not?!), and great casting will be involved, but I'm more psyched about the creature effects and costumes. Silly, I know, but those are the main reasons I watch Del Toro's fantasy films.

No doubt. I mean, if this is anything like Pan's Labyrinth...I mean, watch out. But I'm really excited about the story, too; it'll hopefully be something quirky and as different from the 2003 movie as possible.

I'm also very curious about this movie. I'm actually relieved that it aint a Phantom Manor movie. I would really love to see mine own novel about PM being refilmed on the big screen! :D

That would be interesting! But I think it would also be cool if Disney did a PM sequel/other movie if this one's really successful. But how could it not be? Eddie Murphy won't be in it. :P

Yeah, I hope the new movie goes back to the original spooky feel of the ride...Something which the 2003 movie I think lacked.

Colour me excited. :)

The 2003 movie was more focused on a family-friendly take on the ride and wasn't very serious. It was kind of like those parents in the Doombuggy behind you trying to talk their scared kid through the ride. The HM should be silly and scary, not just silly.

Me and my father are looking forward to this as well, but I'm not sure Ron Pearlman. It depends on what Del Toro writes. On my behalf, I'm just happy to see another Del Toro story, his works is based off classic paintings which will inspire a new creativity on the Mansion itself without the ride. Unfortunately, POTC has already jumped the shark.

I know; I was sort of kidding about Perlman.
I think it'll just be nice to see a serious take on the ride rather than just trying to be silly. Which I think was why the first one was made of fail; it lost its focus about halfway.

PotC is dying a slow, painful death. I have no plans to see the next one.

The original films was good in one half which was a very interesting sub plot about interracial marriage, but then we have to focus on a family sub plot which ruined it.
